Flooding closes section of A19 with drivers urged to follow diversion
A section of the A19 has been closed due flooding after days of heavy rain with drivers urged to follow a diversion.
The A19 is closed northbound between the A1018 (Seaton) and the A690 (East Herrington) due to flooding from heavy rainfall in the area, Highways England has confirmed.
Northumbria Police are currently in attendance and drivers are being advised to follow the diversion in place.
A Highways England statement said: “Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Diamond diversion symbols.
“Exit the northbound A19 then take the A1018 for 1.4 miles then take the second exit from the roundabout on to the B1285 south.
"Continue then turn right on to the B1404. Continue west on the B1404.
"At the roundabout with the A690 take the third exit onto the entry slip road for the A690. Join the A690 and travel 1.5 miles then at the roundabout take the first exit and re-join the A19.
“Road users are advised to expect disruption and to allow extra journey time.”
