Five-car crash near White Mare Pool roundabout - three casualties cut free

Northumbria Police, medics and firefighters were called to the scene of the crash on the approach to the A194(M) White Mare Pool roundabout, which leads to Leam Lane and the A184 Newcastle Road, following the crash just after noon today, Monday, May 18.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 12.10pm by the North East Ambulance Service and released three casualties from vehicles using cutting equipment.

Hide AdIt sent crews from Hebburn, South Shields and Washington to the incident, with the teams on scene within five minutes of the call.
They left the incident at 12.30pm.
The North East Ambulance Service said it sent a double-crewed ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) to the incident, and took one patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment for a neck injury.
It also treated and discharged three patients on the scene.
The Highways Agency also helped other emergency services manage the scene and said it was clearing debris from the road as it issued an update at 1.45pm.
As the incident was still ongoing, a Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.05pm today we received a report of a multi-vehicle collision, involving five cars, on the A194 at the White Mare pool roundabout.

“All three lanes leading to the White Mare Pool roundabout are closed and the A184 westbound slip road is also currently blocked.
“Motorists are asked to avoid the area at this time.”
