A spokesperson for Sunderland City Council said: “The delays are mainly going to affect traffic travelling towards the city centre, along Dame Dorothy Street, as it is expected the left turn from Dame Dorothy Street onto Wearmouth Bridge, will be reduced to one lane.”
Moderate and severe delays are expected if the work does continue into the peak period and it has been advised to take an alternative route.
