
The incident happened on A690 Durham Road, after the A19 roundabout near Herrington, just before 9am.
Only one car is believed to be involved in the incident but inquiries are ongoing by officers to determine what caused the crash.
The female driver of the Volkswagen Touran escaped without injury in the crash.

The westbound carriageway was closed to allow for the car to be recovered and is now reopened to motorists.
Northumbria Police has confirmed no one was injured in the crash.
A forece spokesperson said earlier: “At 8.49am today (Tuesday), police received a report of a collision on the A690 westbound near Houghton-le-Spring.
“Emergency services are at the scene. One lane is currently closed and motorists are advised that there may be congestion in the area.”
