Two-vehicle collision leads to miles of tailbacks on A19 during morning rush hour
Motorists faced six miles of tailbacks during their journeys on Monday, November 25 following an incident involving two vehicles on the A19.
Northumbria Police and Highways England were called to the A19 northbound at 6.30am to reports of a broken-down vehicle near to Hylton Bridge.
Drivers faced delays during their morning commute, with up to six miles of tailbacks reported back down the road towards the turn off for Seaham.
A force spokesman said: “At about 6.30am we received a report of a broken-down vehicle on the A19 northbound carriageway near to Hylton Bridge.
“Shortly after that call we received a report of an unrelated two-vehicle collision further down the carriageway.
“Nobody has been injured in the incident but it has caused congestion in the area. Police were in attendance to assist in clearing the road.”
Traffic was reported to be moving normally by around 8.30am.
