A1M northbound closed near Washington due to overturned vehicle
Diversion routes are set to be put in place
The A1(M) is currently closed northbound due to a collision.
Durham Constabulary have confirmed the news in a post on social media. The collision is reported to be between the Chester-Le-Street and Washington turn-off.
A spokesperson said: “We are currently dealing with a collision on the A1(M) at Chester-Le-Street.
“The road is closed northbound between junction 63 and 64. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route. The road is expected to be closed for some time.
“Thank you for your patience.”
National Highways North East are reporting the collision has involved an overturned vehicle.
A post on social media stated: “The A1M has been closed northbound between J63 and J64 near Chester-Le-Street due to an overturned vehicle. Durham Constabulary are leading the response at scene.
“Delays are building, please plan ahead.”
