British champion Tommy Ward has been added to Steve Wraith's Darlington fight night at the end of the month.

The West Rainton super bantamweight has been added to the May 26 bill at the Dolphin Centre, as he prepares for another title bout in August.

Ward has cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks as his proposed rematch with James 'Jazza' Dickens was put back.

The duo were set to clash for the British title later this month, most likely on the Lee Selby v Josh Warrington Frank Warren-promoted Battle of Britain card in Leeds.

But, with Warren not naming a date or venue for the encounter, the British Boxing Board of Control have taken the step of putting the bout back out for purse bids.

As a result, the 23-year-old, unbeaten in 23 fights, will have a tune up in just over three weeks in preparation of getting back out against Dickens in August.

Meanwhile, trainer Peter Fury has described another Hartlepool boxing talent Savannah Marshall as 'special' ahead of her professional UK debut.

Marshall is in action on the undercard of Sam Sexton's British heavyweight title defence against Hughie Fury in Bolton, on May 12.

And Fury Snr thinks Marshall will go a long way in the sport, and can be at the forefront of the rising women's boxing scene.

"I think you are going to see a lot of Savannah Marshall. She is a special young lady, she will go a long way," said Fury, uncle of lineal heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury and father to Hughie.

"She is dedicated. She listens. She is very much enjoying what she does.

"She is a nice young woman, professional, values her family. She goes home to her Mam and Dad every weekend. She comes from a big family herself.

"She did 15 years in the amateurs, won a gold medal, was a world champion.

"She can whack as well. She walks around at about 12 stone and drops down. She is a unit. A very good athlete."
