Thug jailed after stamping on his new girlfriend during row over late-night music

David Loch snapped when the woman said she wanted to stay up and listen to tunes through her headphones instead of going to bed.Newcastle Crown Court heard the 26-year-old launched a "sustained attack" that left his victim with a black eye and bruising to her face and chest.When police got to the house, Loch threatened "I will bite your face off" and attacked two officers.Loch, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to assault and two charges of assaulting a police constable.Judge Stephen Earl sentenced Loch, who has previous convictions for violence, to 21 months behind bars.The judge told him: "This was a short-lived relationship, this should have been the honeymoon period, when you are getting on better than you ever will."I have seen the photographs. I have to say they are pretty appalling, but then you know that because you did this."Judge Earl slammed Loch for his behaviour towards the police.The judge told him: "No-one goes to work expecting to be assaulted, not even police officers."They also have lives to lead, they are entitled to the respect and protection of society on whose behalf they act."The court heard the couple had got together in January, while they were both living at a hostel in Sunderland.The attack happened in March, while they were staying with a friend of the victim in Newcastle, sharing a mattress on the living room floor.Prosecutor Mark Guiliani told the court Loch had said he was going to sleep but his victim said she planned to stay up.Mr Guiliani said: "She said she wanted to stay up and carry on listening to music on her portable device. She had headphones in."He pulled the headphones out of her head and started kicking her."He pulled her off the sofa and got her onto the floor and stamped on her chest."The court heard the victim tried to stop the violence by going into the bathroom but the attack continued in there.Mr Guiliani said: "He started to kick her while she was down on the floor."This was a sustained attack by this man, using his physical force to assault his partner."It was a sustained attack on a woman, using his feet."Vic Laffey, defending, said Loch had been looking for a permanent place for the couple to live when the woman said they could stay with her friends.Mr Laffey said: "They ended up sleeping on the floor in the living room of a family who he didn't know."The circumstances weren't helpful to the start of their relationship."The relationship ended in a very short space of time."Mr Laffey said Loch had a difficult upbringing and spent time in care.
