Three car crash closes A1231

A stretch of major road was closed for around an hour-and-a-half after a three vehicle collision.

It took place on the A1231 Sunderland Highway, westbound carriageway.

The road between the roundabouts at the A182 Washington Highway and B1288 Mill House was closed.

A number of police cars attended and an ambulance was called, but it is understood that only minor injuries were sustained.

Northumbria Police were informed of the incident at 1.58pm on Friday, August 28. The roads were reopened at approximately 3.30pm.
