We’re in the final full week of last minute Christmas shopping, when those “difficult” to buy presents must be decided on and the food for the festive plates over the holiday break is purchased.
With this in mind, today we take a pictorial look at four shopping scenes from the 1960s and 1970s.
A quick delve into the archives shows a image of the Joplings department store, with its array of illuminated Christmas trees making for a wonderful display for early evening shoppers back in John Street in 1962.
Also in the Sixties, we have shots of Blandford Street and the Christmas tree in Maritime Place, from 1965.
Finally the picture looking down Fawcett Street, with the old Binns stores showing on the corners, from 1973.
