Swansea boss not expecting any favours from Sunderland this weekend

Already relegated, the Black Cats will be playing Championship football next season but they are having a major say in who will join them in the second tier come August.

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over Hull - coupled with Swansea’s 1-0 win over Everton - saw Clement’s side climb out of the drop zone and a point clear of the Tigers heading into the final week of the season.

With the pressure off, Sunderland were full value for their win at the KCOM Stadium.

And Clement is braced for a difficult afternoon at the Stadium of Light tomorrow (KO 3pm), Sunderland’s final home game of the season.

Clement said: "It’s helped us that they beat Hull because it just shows they are still working hard and are still capable of getting results.

"It’s their last game at the Stadium of Light this season and maybe it’s the last home game at home for some of their players.

"They have a good manager who is competitive and wants to win every game, and they are going to want to finish the season strongly, so we are expecting a very hard game."

Swansea will be backed by 3,000 fans, their tickets paid for by the Swans first team squad.

"The atmosphere last weekend when we played Everton was phenomenal," added the former Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich assistant manager.

"Everyone was talking about it afterwards – the players, the media and the fans who I have seen in the city this week. We really felt that during the game – it was a massive help for us.

"It’s more difficult to recreate that when you are away from home, but you could certainly here our fans at Manchester United a couple of weeks ago.

"We have 3,000 fans coming with us to Sunderland, so hopefully we will see the same thing again."

Wayne Routledge (hernia) and Angel Rangel (foot) have both returned to full training and Clement has no other fresh injury concerns.

Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, who has scored 13 goals in 33 games, scored the winner against Everton.

And John O’Shea and Lamine Kone will have a busy afternoon attempting to nullify his obvious threat.

Clement added: "He has scored some crucial goals at big moments. The season is not done, hopefully he can continue to do it.

"But whatever happens, we can look back at this season and say he came up with some important goals at key times.

"Of course I would like to hold on to him. He has quality and experience, and goalscorers like him are hard to find. He has a presence physically and because of what he has done in the game."
