Support for volunteer life brigade

Sunderland Volunteer Life Brigade has benefited to the tune of almost £6,000 after it was selected as a major store's charity of the year.

Colleagues including store manager Chris Stevens, Sara Patterson and Amanda Johnson officially handed over a donation of £5,746 to brigade members Larry Hetherington and Rose Roberts.

The donation will be used to help provide a training base for brigade members as well as a lookout for the Coastwatch team.

Funded through the Sainsbury’s Community Budget scheme, it was set up to help charitable groups in the local area and is partially funded by sales of the retailer’s ‘Bag for Life’.

Store manager Chris Stevens, said: “Our store is at the heart of the local community and is important we can play our part to support it. When we heard about the brigade we just wanted to help out.”
