She married Harry, who went on to become a director at William Doxford, with who she had son George, now 77.

As well as being chairwoman of West Southwick Townswomen’s Guild, she was also a member of Wearside Golf Club until her later years.

Beatrice celebrated reaching the milestone at her Killingworth Drive home, next to Barnes Park.

George told the Echo: “My mam is still quite active for her age.

“She’s had an excellent day celebrating being 100.

“All of the family have been here, about 25 to 30 of us.

“It’s been lovely.”

As well as George, Beatrice also has grandchildren Jamie, 32, and Jade, 27.
