The versatile 23-year-old has impressed this season playing at centre-back but is capable of slotting in across the back four.

Soumaoro is also adept at right back and has caught the eye of Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce, report the Daily Mail.

The Black Cats have been linked with a host of players in the past few days including Blackburn Rovers centre-back Shane Duffy, with reports suggesting Sunderland are considering a £5million move.

Sunderland have also been linked with a summer move for Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome - who is out of contract in the summer - and Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre, also linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

Allardyce signed centre back Lamine Kone from Lorient for £5million in January, while Jan Kirchhoff - capable of playing in midfield and defence - joined on an 18-month deal from Bayern Munich.

But with Wes Brown expected to leave in the summer, Allardyce will be looking to boost his defensive options.

Soumaoro, under contract until 2019, was born in France but has dual Mali nationality.

He has been with Lille since he was a teenager and the defender has made 21 appearances for the Ligue 1 club this season - scoring two goals.
