Sunderland Sunday League: New Town spot on to send Silksworth CW crashing out of Joe Holborn Memorial Cup

Division One basement boys New Town heaped further pressure on reformed Premier outfit Silksworth CW, knocking the hosts out of the Joe Holborn Memorial Cup on penalties.

The game finished 2-2. Jordan Wolfendale and Davey Stevens netted for Silksworth, but New Town hit back through David Laidler and star man Elliott Salicki before edging the shoot-out 5-4.

TC Plastics extended their unbeaten run with a 4-0 victory at Redhouse Last Orders.

Josh Farquhar, Tench, Michael Young and an own goal gave the Plasticmen the win. Last Orders’ Dylan Oxberry shone against his old side.

Ryhope Top House continued their rich form with a 5-2 win over First Division The Royal Marine.

Paul Brooke grabbed three glorious goals before Collier and Peter Marshall reduced the deficit. Top House left it late, but star man Redman and Tench put the game to bed.

Premier side Ryhope Foresters killed Thorney Close Inn’s cup dream with a heavy 5-1 defeat.

Kieran Davies was in excellent form, grabbing a hat-trick to set up Foresters. David Robison scored for Thorney before Gavin Nesbitt and Chris Bell increased Ryhope’s lead.

The Lansdowne hoped for a better result against RCA Grangetown Florists after their heavy defeat the previous week.

But Florists did it again, hitting four past Nathan Brown. Marty Metcalfe and Andy Place both bagged braces before James Talbot replied late on.

Hylton Castle TWR Group dumped Farra Paragon ISL out in a 4-1 win.

Harry Graham played well for Hylton and played his part in the four goals. Marc Moon struck in each half then Lee Cresswell and Tom Callaghan finished Paragon off.

Andy Middleton replied with his trademark mazy run and goal.

Southwick’s adventure in the All-England FA Sunday Cup ended as they went out via the dreaded spot-kicks, losing 4-3 after a 0-0 draw at Newton Aycliffe Huntsman.

Southwick dominated the majority of the game but couldn’t find the net. Clayton Davis starred in vain for the visitors.

Victoria Gardens moved top of the Premier Division for the first time, thanks to a hard-fought 6-3 win over title hopefuls SR Dons.

Alan Golightly and Callum Hope both scored doubles, with star man James Cassidy unplayable.

Kev Humble and Lee Pearce finished the scoring, while Dons had Andy Morris, David Hall and Chris Laws reduce the deficit.

Ashbrooke Hendon moved into second place in Division One after a clinical 3-0 win over The Stella.

Owens, Newby and Reay all scored in the first half to make sure Stella couldn’t get into the game. Gav Teasdale starred for Stella, Neal Atkinson for Hendon.

Goals from Jake Baker, star man Dan Callaghan and Scott Wallace kept Sunderland Railway Club secured an important 3-1 win over Port of Call. Gaige Lisle replied.

Jolly Potters’ poor form continued as Washington Colliery lads took full advantage of their depleted team with a 3-1 away win.

Andy McIntyre scored twice before Andy Finnon replied with a rare goal for Potters. Jonny Roberts then popped up with an excellent finish to seal the points.
