Sunderland star Aly Dixon 28th in Olympic marathon
Sunderland Stroller Alyson Dixon finished 28th in this afternoon's marathon in Rio.
The Wearsider made her now familiar ‘Borini’ celebration as she crossed the finishing line in 2:34:36.
She finished two places ahead of GB team-mate Sonia Samuels.
The race was won by Jemima Sumgong in 2:24:4 - the first time a Kenyan has won the gold medal in the women’s Olympic marathon.
Eunice Kirwa of Bahrain was second with Mare Dibaba of Ethiopia claim ing bronze.
The conditions were not kind - bright and sunny, humid and about 80 degrees.
