“It was a really easy decision to make and I’m delighted to have signed for the club,” said Johnston. “Carlton didn’t really need to persuade me to be honest; I have played against Sunderland for quite a few years so I know what it’s all about here.
“There is a real sense of togetherness and I think that is what makes them so hard to play against.”
Also joining is 22-year-old Rachel Pitman, who has recently returned from DePaul University in Chicago.

“It was an easy decision to make because of the set-up overall; there is not much better out there.” said Pitman. “Sunderland are a club who are striving to be at the top and I am delighted to be a part of that ambition.”
Fairweather said: “It is great to bring on board another two fantastic players as we look to build on the success of last season.
“Krystle and Rachel have a wealth of experience which will stand us in good stead for the forthcoming campaign.”
