Sunderland nursery raises cash in memory of tragic infant

Youngsters, parents and staff at Busy Bees Nursery, Ryhope, fundraising at their summer fayre to raise money for the Neo-natal unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Nursery staff and youngsters have kindly raised hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of a tragic infant who died at just weeks old.

Those involved with Busy Bees Nursery, in Ryhope, were generating cash for Sunderland Royal Hospital’s Neo-Natal Unit.

That’s after they cared for baby Tilly Scott, who died at just one month old following her birth at 17 weeks in July last year.

The nursery’s summer fair was where the money was raised.

Jenna Baxter, manager at Busy Bees and a friend to Tilly’s parents Craig and Jodi, who live in Houghton, said: “We put on raffles, a tombola stall and even had face painting too.

“Hartbeeps sensory play activity group were also here and the children really seemed to enjoy it.

“We’ve raised £415 so far and we’re still getting money in so hopefully it’ll be nearer £500 when we hand it over to the hospital.”

Jenna said parents of children who attend Busy Bees were keen to get involved on hearing of the family’s heartache.

“What happened to Tilly has touched quite a few of the staff,” added Jenna.

“We also have parents of children who have been through similar things and they were really keen to help out in any way.

“We also wanted to give something back to the neo-natal unit for the fantastic and vital work that they do.”
