The celebrity made a personal appearance at Illusions night club, in the city centre, on Saturday night.

But a video surfaced online afterwards which appears to show Katie belting out a rendition of How Do I Live? by LeAnn Rimes to an empty dancefloor.

However, the club’s marketing manager, Charlie Carlin, contacted the Echo to set the record straight.

He said that around 1,300 people had earlier filled the dancefloor as Katie, a panellist on ITV’s Loose Women, put on a 15-minute show – and insisted that the video of 37-year-old singing to an empty club was actually taken after the venue had shut and only staff were left inside after customers had left.

He said: “We booked Katie to come to the club and she put on a stage show which lasted about 15 minutes and there was a really good crowd there to watch her.

“The audience members were up dancing and there was a really good atmosphere. Thousands of pictures have been posted on Facebook by people that were there.

“After her show, she went up to the VIP section to do a meet and greet with everyone in there and had a great laugh with everyone.”

Charlie says Katie long out-stayed her contracted time to party with staff and clubbers.

He said: “Most people who do personal appearances stay for the amount of time they’re contracted to and then leave straight away, but not Katie.

“She was a really good laugh and she had a great sense of humour and she stayed all night.

“When the club shut and all the customers had left, she went back into the DJ stand to sing to the members of staff that we left in the bar and that’s what is on the video, it’s being made out as if no one was at the club but that’s not the case.

“Katie and her entourage even spent the night in Sunderland at the Marriott and I got text messages from her manager and her husband Kieran the next day to say they’d been over the moon with the hospitality they’d been shown and that Katie would love to come back to Sunderland.”
