Sunderland MP backs Don't Drink and Drown campaign

A Wearside MP has pledged to support a drowning prevention charity in its work to provide water safety education and lifesaving awards.

Representatives from The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) made the trip to Parliament ahead of its annual national Don’t Drink and Drown campaign which, this year, runs from December 4 to 10.

Washington and Sunderland West’s Sharon Hodgson said: “Too often in our local area we hear of the lives lost because of accidental drowning.

“Raising awareness of the risks of drowning is crucial in reducing the number of people who lose their lives in the water every year, especially following drinking.”
