Sunderland mother and daughter rescued by Coastguard after being cut off by tide at Hendon Beach

A crew from Sunderland Lifeboat Station was called into action to rescue a mother and her child who had got into difficulties at Hendon Beach.

The call came at 11.22am on Wednesday, May 20. The pair had been cut off by the tide.

RNLI volunteers were paged by UK Coastguard and found the mother and daughter cut off between the ramps from the promenade.

They were helped to safety after being helped up some steps, while a lifeboat crew waited offshore. The two were then given a quick check to make sure they were not in danger.

Anyone visiting a beach is advised to check tide times first. In a coastal emergency, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
