Sunderland man on attempted murder charge after house fire

A man accused of attempted murder after a house fire has appeared in court.

Daniel McCardle was questioned after a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a blaze at Magdalene Place, Ferryhill, County Durham, on July 29.

McCardle, of Coxon Street, Hendon, Sunderland, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court today via video link with HMP Durham.

The 27-year-old was not asked to enter a plea to the attempted murder charge.

He will be back in court for a further hearing on October 9 and a provisional trial date has been listed for February 12 next year.

Judge Neil Davey QC remanded him in custody in the meantime.
