Sunderland man found safe and well following police and RNLI search at River Wear

Emergency services carried out a search at the River Wear in Sunderland following reports of concern for a man in the early morning of Wednesday, February 26.

Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team was called out to the river at around 6.30am to search for a possible person in the water, but was later stood down from the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed to the Echo that the man had been found safe and well following a search.

He said in a statement on Wednesday: “Shortly before 5.30am today we received a report of concern for a man who had left an address in the Padgate Road area of Sunderland.

Emergency services were called to the Queen Alexandra Bridge on Wednesday morning.

“A missing person investigation was launched and a wide-ranging search was carried out in order to locate the male and ensure he was safe and well.

“He was successfully located in the Pennywell area of the city and was offered support by officers.”
