Sunderland lollipop lady taken to hospital after suspected hit and run near Southmoor Academy and Hill View School

A lollipop lady suffered a broken foot in a suspected hit and run collision near two Sunderland schools.

The incident happened at around 8.15am on Thursday (October 13) on Queen Alexandra Road, near Southmoor Academy and Hill View School.

It was reported that a car collided with a school crossing patrol officer.

The female driver of the car, a dark blue people carrier, then reportedly left the scene without giving any details.

The lollipop lady was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a broken foot.

Officers investigating the incident have now issued an appeal for information.

Northumbria Police said: “Enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver and police are urgently encouraging those involved, or anyone who saw the incident, to come forward and assist the investigation.

“The driver or anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20221013-0375.”
