Sunderland launch improved offer for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke

The Black Cats made an initial bid of £600,000 last week and the Northern Echo claim they have now upped their offer, the offer reported to be worth around £1million.

Sunderland are in desperate need of strikers but missed out on one of their main targets with Mo Eisa on the verge of completing a move to Championship side Bristol City.

Sunderland, who bid £1million for Eisa, were battling Portsmouth and Peterborough United for his signature but Bristol came in with an offer that matched Cheltenham Town's £1.5million valuation.

Owner Stewart Donald this morning revealed Sunderland have made three bids for strikers and are waiting to hear back.

One of those is Middlesbrough-born Bradford striker Wyke, who is currently out injured. He is understood to be keen on a move to Wearside.

Wyke has just a year left on his contract.

Sunderland are keen for a quick response to their offer given the need for at least two new strikers and the transfer window closing on August 9.

Jack Ross has previously said he wants answers quickly on their main targets as they may have to look elsewhere with time short.
