Having been dropped for Robbin Ruiter after just three Championship appearances, Steele was recalled at Ipswich on Tuesday night.

But his shaky display and effort for the fifth goal has prompted a furious reaction on Twitter – and much of it aimed at the manager who brought both Steele and Ruiter to Wearside.

Grayson tried to explain why he dropped Ruiter for Steele after the 5-2 defeat at Portman Road, but while few fans will accept that explanation, they are either split or completely at a loss over how to solve the keeper crisis. Here's some of the Twitter reaction:

@SAFCBear: I'm trying to think if I've ever seen a keeper do summit like that before and I'm struggling

@cblackbird_ :That Jason Steele dive is one of the best things I've seen like

@pauloleary0988: Sure Steele and Ruiter have a sweepstake going on who can look the worst.

@edSAFC_: Mika should be given a chance in goal. Steele poor. Ruiter not much better #SAFC

@Ridderz86: To mark the #Sol20 we have signed Jason Steele as a tribute to Kelvin Davis. 500k aswell. 45% of the entire transfer budget

@CllrCallaghan: I think Jason Steele should do the decent thing and just resign as a professional footballer. Quickly. #SAFC

@al_smith11: Jason Steele was an absolute abomination last night. #safc
