Sunderland dog owner's £1,200 bill to save Husky puppy after horror attack by Bullmastiffs
A distraught pet-lover says her pup could have been killed after it was savagely attacked on a Sunderland walkway.
Summer, her three-month-old Siberian Husky, had to undergo emergency vet’s treatment costing £1,200 after a pair of Bullmastiffs pounced on her.
Owner Michele Harrison said her beloved dog is lucky to be alive following the attack.
Summer was being walked on a lead by Michele’s partner, Will Goodings, 57, near the burn at the bottom of Crosslea Avenue, Tunstall, when the two dogs launched at her.
As Will tried to get the dogs off terrified Summer, she managed to slip her lead and run for safety, and the male owner of the two dogs fled the scene.
After being reunited with their pet, Michele and Will could see she had multiple injuries to her back leg and underbelly, and had to rush her to an emergency vet, where she needed dozens of internal and external stitches and remained in the vet hospital overnight.
Michele said after posting online about the incident on Monday evening, she has been inundated with messages from fellow dog-walkers who claim this is not the first time these dogs have attacked.

The 53-year-old, of Veryan Gardens, Tunstall, said: “One of the dogs jumped on her and pinned her down while the other was biting her. She was really badly injured.
“Thankfully they got hold of her at the back because if it had been her neck area she would be dead now.
“I was in tears because she is only three months old - she’s just a baby. She has been so good as well.
“It could easily have been a child getting attacked. I just want to let people know to be extra careful when they are walking in the area.”
Michele got Summer as a companion for her 14-month-old Siberian Husky, Skye, after he was diagnosed with epilepsy, and the two have quickly become best of friends.
She said: “Over the last couple of days Skye has had seizures and I think it is because he is stressed at not being able to be with Summer. I have to keep them apart because of her wounds.”
