Town Centre Citroen Sunderland’s sales promotion has been donating £10 for every car they sell to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Workers Tracey Frear and Dawn Robson also took on the challenge of the Macmillan Zip Slide last October, Paul Carney completed the Great North Run and all the staff took part in World’s Biggest Coffee Morning along with all their other fund-raising.

The dealership, in Ferryboat Lane, has now raised £60,325.95 after initially setting a £5,000 target in 2011.

Charity bosses say the support means Macmillan can continue and develop more services in Sunderland to support people affected by cancer.

Currently the organisation funds the Macmillan Cancer Information Support Centre, specialist nurses, counselling services, benefits advisors and the work of medical professionals.

Liz Airey, fund-raising manager for Macmillan, said: “Macmillan is only able to support local people affected by cancer with the support of Car dealerships like Town Centre Citroen.

“I would like to personally thank everyone who have helped to raise such a fantastic amount to help people affected by cancer.

Chris Sopp, dealer principal at the dealership, said: “When we started, we never thought that we would reach £60,000.

“We have all be touched in one way or another by cancer either personally or someone that we know.

“We are honoured to be supporting Macmillan as the work they do is important, not only to those with cancer, but to their families as well.

“We will continue to support Macmillan by donating £10 for every car that we sell and also by hosting a coffee morning in September.”

“Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our staff and customers for helping us reach this fantastic amount.”
