Sunderland boxer Josh Kelly makes it four wins with second round TKO of José Luis Zúñiga

The gifted Sunderland boxer halted José Luis Zúñiga in the second round of their international contest in Belfast on Saturday.

Kelly had dominated the opening session at the SSE Arena when he crunched two left hooks into the head of the Mexican.

The referee jumped in, stopping the 27-year-old who went into the six-round contest unbeaten since July 2014.

It looked harsh on Mexico's light-middleweight champion, who protested to the Irish official but the success further advanced the career of the boxer known as "Pretty Boy".

Kelly was in charge from the off on the undercard of the Ryan Burnett v Zhanat Zhakiyanov IBF/ WBA bantamweight unification showdown.

The 23-year-old moved well while keeping a good guard when he was in Zúñiga's range.

But when he landed he did so in clinical fashion, a right upper cut wobbling his opponent.

Kelly landed some short, sharp lefts to Zúñiga's head and a left-right combination with Zúñiga getting some respite when he lost his gumshield, his corner taking an eternity to replace it.

After dominating the first three minutes, the 2016 Olympian was just as accurate in the second round, his sharp left fist finding the target again and again.

He forced Zúñiga onto the ropes, delivering three shots to the Mexican's head, one did not connect but the other two got through, prompting the official to step in.
