And Italian stopper Mannone knows they have to end that miserable statistic soon and stop conceding “cheap” goals if they are to stay up this season.

Blackburn Rovers centre-back Shane Duffy is the latest defender to be linked with a move to the Stadium of Light, with reports suggesting Sunderland are considering a £5million move.

Sunderland have also been linked with a summer move for Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome - who is out of contract in the summer.

Belgian striker Laurent Depoitre has also been linked with a move to the Stadium of Light.

And finally, Sunderland’s Barclays Premier League home clash with Everton will have to be rearranged.

The Black Cats are scheduled to meet the Toffees at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, March 12.

But Everton’s progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals – they will meet Chelsea on the weekend of March 11-14 – will force Sunderland into a postponement of the league game.
