Sunderland AFC news: Bordeaux defender linked, Inter Milan still interested in striker

Bordeaux defender Frederic Guilbert is the latest player from France to be linked with a move to Sunderland.

The Black Cats have been credited with an interest in a host of players from Ligue 1 this summer after January's successful captures of Lamine Kone and Wahbi Khazri.

Reports in France today have indicated that both Sunderland and relegated Aston Villa are tracking Guilbert, who is out-of-contract at Bordeaux next summer.

The 21-year-old can play at either right-back or centre-half - both of which are positions that Sunderland are looking to strengthen.

Meanwhile, there are reports in Italy that Fabio Borini remains on the radar of Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Borini saw a move to Inter fall through last summer, prior to his £10million switch to the Stadium of Light, yet they are still keeping tabs on the 25-year-old.

However, it is understood that Borini expects to stay at Sunderland after producing a consistent run of form at the end of last season.

Sam Allardyce's future also remains the subject of speculation today after widespread reports that the Sunderland boss is under consideration by the FA for the England job.

But an overseas candidate looks the likeliest solution for the FA, with USA boss and ex-Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann the favourite with the bookmakers.
