Sunderland AFC news: Allardyce reveals 'shock' signing plans, pursuit of Swansea ace steps up, Newcastle 'friendly'

Sunderland AFC continue to dominate the January transfer talk - with the club's pursuit of Andre Ayew stepping up.

Reports overnight suggested the Black Cats had lodged a £10million bid plus Fabio Borini for Swansea City forward Andre Ayew.

But the Echo understands a bid of that size has not been lodged, but the club remain firmly interested in bringing the Ghana international to the Stadium of Light.

Meanwhile, Swansea are interested in Borini too, with new boss Francesco Guidolin understood to be a fan of the Italian and the idea of a swap deal originating from the Liberty Stadium.

However, sources close to Borini - who enjoyed a loan spell at Swansea earlier in his career - continue to insist that the ex-Liverpool man will “100 per cent” be staying at Sunderland this month.

Allardyce added: "You've got to find out if that quality of player wants to come and join you, and ask the question.

"Sometimes, the circumstances will allow you to sign them, especially with the European Championships coming up this summer.

"For instance, Youri Djorkaeff came to me because he needed to play first-team football, so he could play for France in the World Cup that year."
