Stewart Donald reveals Sunderland takeover 'moving on at pace' as he nears full control

Ellis Short announced two weeks ago today that he had agreed a deal to sell the club to an international consortium fronted by businessman Donald.

The takeover still needs ratification by the Football League, a process which can take a number of weeks.

Donald, however, has taken to Twitter to reassure fans that the process is 'moving on at pace' and that he is hopeful of taking charge at the Stadium of Light soon.

In response to questions about the takeover, Donald replied: "It's moving on. Lots to do but getting there now!

"I don't know (when it will be ratified) but the EFL are responding quickly all the time and it seems to be moving on well. They are on it. Will have to see - fingers crossed won't be too long before we all know.

"Things are moving on at pace behind the scenes. EFL are responding quickly so good on them. Hopefully be some news soon. Fingers crossed for a quick conclusion from here."

Donald, who owns non-league side Eastleigh, is believed to have found a buyer for the National League club which would clear another obstacle in the way of him taking over at Sunderland.

The 43-year-old was at the final Championship game of the season to watch Sunderland beat Wolves 3-0.
