Stewart Donald, Charlie Methven and Juan Sartori each donate 50 tickets to Sunderland Boxing Day initiative

Sunderland owners Stewart Donald, Charlie Methven and Juan Sartori have added their support to the Boxing Day fan initiative - by donating 50 tickets each themselves.

Hundreds of Sunderland fans have joined a campaign to help fans who may be struggling to afford match tickets for the game on Boxing Day at home to Bradford City.

LIVE: Transfer news - Sunderland linked with Scottish hotshotThe initiative was created by Sunderland fan Simon Baty last Friday and an overwhelming response has seen over 500 tickets donated to the Foundation of Light, who will then distribute to families accordingly.

And club chairman Donald, executive director Methven and director Juan Satori, who owns 20 per cent of the club, have all bought 50 tickets each which they will donate.

Donald said “We have seen an amazing response to this initiative over the weekend and it's only right that Charlie, Juan and I play our part by each donating 50 tickets.

“Christmas should be a time for family and friends, yet for so many it can be one of the hardest periods of the year. Our fans are known for their generous spirit and the response so far has been overwhelming.

Methven has also encouraged anyone who can get involved in the initiative to do so, with a target now set to reach 2,000 tickets bought in total.

“There will be many who simply cannot contribute, and we fully understand that, but we urge those who can do so to help make this Christmas really special for those in less fortunate circumstances," he said.

“This is the One Club philosophy in action; all parts of the SAFC community coming together to have a good time and achieve things.”

For those who want to get involved, special donation tickets are available to buy via the online box office by clicking the 'FoL Donation' option. You will then be able to enter the number of tickets you would like to buy along with the price. For tickets priced at £22, chose donation one and for tickets priced at £25, choose donation two.
