To mark what would have been her son Jamie Maclennan’s 30th birthday, his mum Karen, fund-raiser at Grace House respite centre, along with family and friends who form the #chin4jamie Charity Committee have organised a quiz night.

The quiz, which will be held on Friday, October 6 at the Stadium of Light, just three days before Jamie’s birthday will have Chaser Anne Hegerty as quizmaster.

Anne will also go Head to Head with the winning team who will have the chance of doubling their prize money from £300 to £600 if they manage to beat her.

Jamie sadly died in December 2014, aged just 27.

He was found by Karen in bed after suffering what was believed to be an epileptic seizure.

Keen rugby player Jamie had been diagnosed with epilepsy more than a decade before he died, but never let his condition get in the way of enjoying his life.

Karen said: “Just months before Jamie died, following a seizure due to epilepsy, Jamie took part in a Grace House quiz night and was over-the-moon that his team won.

“Jamie’s birthday will go without celebration but as with every day since he left us.

“He will continue to be in our thoughts missing him even more as every day passes.”

Teams of six are being asked to register before the event at £20 per head, £120 per team of six, and entry includes a pie and pea supper.

Karen continued: “Fundraising on the night will be for Grace House, a charity Jamie supported both by fundraising and volunteering.
