Children at Thornbury Close Primary School enthusiastically participated in a unique and inclusive exercise class, which was run at a special activities event put on by Thornbury Care Home. Activities co-ordinator at the home, who is also referred to as the ‘Oomph! Lady’, visited the school to run an exercise class, which involved pulse-raising dancing with pom-poms and other glittery accessories. Oomph! classes are regularly held at the home, where residents are supported to participate in physical exercise, which is accessible, fun and has wide-range health benefits. Members of staff work with residents to co-design the classes, which promote mobility and focus on creating a positive and exciting environment. Thornbury is part of the Embrace Group, and provides dementia, residential, nursing and physical disability care for older people. The activities co-Ordinator at Thornbury, said: “The children loved taking part in the exercise class, and it was a great opportunity for them to learn more about the great work we do to support residents at Thornbury Care Home. We look forward to running more joint activities with the primary school in the future.”
