South Shields pastor shares his mum's love in new book

A South Tyneside church leader has written a book, as a tribute to his late mother.

Pastor Joseph Omoragbon – of the South Shields-based Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) – has penned the book, called Evbusogie: The 1st Class Mother – in which he covers the relationship and lessons he was taught by his mum– Evbusogie Omoragbon – who died earlier this year aged 95.

Pastor Joseph last saw his mum in 2012, when she visited South Shields from their hometown in Nigeria – just after he had established his church.

He said: “My mother was a wonderful woman. She raised me alone, after my father died when I was nine months old.

“She was not an educated woman but she had so much wisdom and knowledge.

“Mum was able to travel over here in 2012 to see the church and my home. That was the last time I ever saw her.”

He added: “She was a very blessed woman, with eight children, 39 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and I think people would learn a great deal if they read my book.”

The top five things Pastor Joseph learnt from his mum:

1. Patience – to always wait for my turn.

2. Not to envy anyone.

3. Not to depend on anyone but God.

4. To maintain good 
relationships with everyone around me.

5. To always trust and 
respect the views of my wife.

The book is split into five chapters and covers topics including ‘the worth of a child’ and ‘what I learnt from my mother’.

Pastor Joseph writes: “Today, in contemporary society, before anyone is allowed to drive a car, teach in a school, be a plumber, or practise medicine, that person must be licensed – indicating that they have to have a certain level of training and expertise to perform that function.

“However, when it comes to being a mother, no professional training or experience is required. Although it may be easy to become a mother, it is difficult to pay the price of 
motherhood.”

On Friday the RCCG will be embarking on its Fifth Annual Kingdom Life Festival.

Starting the three days of celebration will be an impartation night at the Vic Hall, in Victoria Road, South Shields, from 6pm to 8.30pm.

On Saturday, from 1pm to 4pm, an academic seminar and multi-cultural praise will be held at the same venue.

And on Sunday an annual thanksgiving service will take place. Everyone is welcome.
