Six petty criminals who ended up in court

The following cases have been dealt with at Sunderland Magistrates' Court.

Andrew Scott, 28, of Exeter Street, pleaded guilty to an assault on August 30, and was found guilty, after trial, of another assault on January 17. He was sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment, suspended for a year, and was told to pay compensation of £350 and £300 costs. He was todl to carry out 80 hours’ unpaid work and take part in 25 days’ specified activity.

Syed Ahmed, 23, of Otto Terrace, Sunderland, was found guilty, after a trial, of failing to identify the driver of a vehicle, between March 18 and April 15, 2015. He was fined £40 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20. He was banned from driving for one day.

Dale Briscoe, 27, of Grenfell Square, Sunderland, was found guilty, after a trial, of an assault on May 24, 2015. He was fined £280 and was told to pay compensation of £100, victim surcharge of £28 and costs of £650.

Shaun Downing, 24, of Eversley Crescent, Carley Hill, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to an assault on August 8, 2015. He was given a 12-month community order, with a two-month tagged curfew between 8pm and 8am and 25 days’ specified activity. He was also told to pay compensation of £50, victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

Daniel Grimes, 25, of Dean Terrace, Southwick, pleaded guilty to sending grossly offensive text messages, for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety. He was given a 12-month community order with 25 days’ specified activity. He was also fined £60 and told to pay compensation of £50 and victim surcharge of £60.

Wayne Potts, 31, of Craigavon Road, Hylton Castle, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke unlawful violence on July 4, 2015. He was fined £240 and was told to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £250.
