Six-gold Dave leads the way for Sunderland Masters in Northumberland and Durham Gala

Sunderland Masters secured 20 golds in a 39-medal haul at the Northumberland and Durham Gala at Haven Point in South Shields.

Dave Hills was the Wearsiders’ star turn, winning gold medals in each of his six events in the 65-69 years category.

He triumphed in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, plus the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m medley.

In the same section, Graeme Shutt secured a 100m backstroke gold and silvers in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and 100m medley.

Norman Stephenson, in the 70-74 section, won golds in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 100m medley and 100m butterfly, adding a silver in the 50m butterfly.

Lindy Woodrow enjoyed a cracking day in the 60-64 women’s category, taking home three gold medals, from the 50m, 200m and 400m freestyle, and adding a 100m silver.

In the 45-49 section, Mark Robinson won gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle, while finishing second in the 50m freestyle and securing bronzes in the 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 100m medley.

Jon Dean, in the same category, won the 100m backstroke gold, was runner-up in the 100m medley and grabbed bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke.

Sunderland had three competitors in the 40-44 age group.

Chris Toop landed gold medals in the 400m and 800m freestyle, and added a silver in the 200m freestyle.

Neil Shutt sealed a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke and bronze in the 100m medley, while Sean Harrion had a best finish of fourth in the 50m freestyle.

Conor Crozier picked up a silver medal in the 20-24 years 50m backstroke, adding bronzes in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
