Silksworth and Ryhope - Down Your Way

North Street Methodist Church Silksworth is holding its monthly coffee morning this Saturday from 10am to noon. There will be cake and fair trade stalls. All are welcome. This will be followed by the children's fun club from noon to 1.30pm.

The church is having a pie and peas supper with entertainment on Monday, February 8, at 7.30pm. Telephone 521 1196 for tickets at £1.50 each. All are welcome.

The library area in Beckwith Mews, Silksworth, is now closed. A small community book collection will be available in the Beckwith restaurant and there will be an additional community book collection at Silksworth Community Centre. Ryhope WI members enjoyed their January meeting. The guest speaker was Liz Cairns, a Holistic Therapist from Foyle Street in Sunderland. The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month in Ryhope Community Centre at 6.30pm. New members are welcome.

The Lisa Clinton School of Dance Christmas performance was a great success, Georgia Grieves was presented with the Pat Burns memorial trophy. The dancers are now starting to rehearse for their summer show at the Royalty Theatre in Sunderland. The school is based in Silksworth Community Centre and anyone interested in joining should contact Lisa on 07745060371 or email [email protected] or facebook.

Are you or somebody you know at a loose end? Why not pop along to the Men’s Den? This is a new friendship club available to men only. This session is held on a Thursday from 10am to noon in Ryhope Community Centre. Activities will include dominoes, cards and crosswords. Go along to this free session and meet other people in the area. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included. For more information call 0191 5239371 and ask for Heather or Paula.

A free craft session for children will be held in Ryhope Library during half term on Tuesday, February 16, from 2pm to 3pm. Celebrate Chinese New Year and decorate a stained glass monkey. Silksworth Scout Group is looking for volunteers. If you are interested in working with children between the ages of six and 18, contact [email protected] for details of this and other Beavers, Cubs and Scouts groups in the Sunderland area.

Unfortunately due to cancelled speakers and staff absence the South Forum Meeting at Farringdon Jubilee Centre due to take place tomorrow has been cancelled. The meeting on Wednesday, February 24, at 12.30pm will go ahead as usual in The Launch Pad at Farringdon Jubilee Centre. The centre will be starting tea and teach sessions running from Fresh Start Cafe on a Wednesday and Friday from 9.30am to 11.30am. Drop in to get some advice and support using your tablet/iPad or any other IT queries, when someone will try their best to help you become more IT savvy.
