Beckwith Mews, Silksworth, is holding a Christmas Fair on Tuesday, December 13, from 9.30am to 2pm. There will be stalls and refreshments. All welcome.

Come along to a friendly lunch in North Street Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 13, from noon to 1.30pm. The lunch is £3 and includes, soup, sandwich, dessert, tea or coffee and a friendly chat. Everyone welcome.

New Age Kurling was held at Tunstall WI’s November meeting when most members took part with lots of encouragement from all. Marjorie Snaith was the winner with Mildred Charlton runner-up. A good night was had by all. The next meeting is on Thursday at North Street Methodist Church, Silksworth, at 7pm. It is the Christmas party with a buffet meal and entertainment by the St Columba Singers. The competition is a ‘Handmade Christmas Ornament’. Could members please inform a member of the committee if unable to attend and visitors also inform them if you wish to attend, for catering reasons. Christmas jumpers may be worn. All welcome.

Silksworth Community Carol Service with the Millfield Salvation Army Band will be hosted by the IM Methodist Church (behind Blind Lane) on Wednesday, December 14, at 7.15pm. If you would like to make a child’s Christmas special, then please take a new child’s toy or something suitable for a teenager with you to the service. All welcome.

St Leonard’s School, Silksworth, is holding a Christmas Market on Friday, December 16, from 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be many stalls, refreshments and games. This event is being organised by the Parent/Teachers Association and all proceeds go directly to the pupils. Everyone welcome.

The Sunderland Theatre Organ Preservation Society present Chris Powell in concert at the Mighty Compton Organ on Sunday at 2.30pm in Ryhope Community Centre, Black Road, Ryhope SR2 0RX. He has been playing for concerts and dancing from the age of 16 and makes a welcome return to Ryhope. Chris travels from his home in Derbyshire to play the final concert of the 2016 season, which will feature Christmas favourites and musical delights. Admission is £5, student card and under-16s £2.50. Pay at the door.

St Benedict Hospice’s Dedication Christmas Tree is once again situated in the Bridges Shopping Centre outside Iceland and Tesco. It’s offering shoppers the chance, for a small donation, to hang a dedicated bauble in memory of a loved one. There is also an opportunity to purchase seasonal gifts.
