Siglion, the joint venture company behind the redevelopment of five sites across the city, is sponsoring this year’s Sunderland 10K run and Half Marathon on May 1 staff are taking on the 150-mile treadmill challenge

A treadmill has been installed in the boardroom at Siglion’s headquarters in the Echo 24 Building and visitors will be able to see the team’s efforts through the windows.

Siglion asset manager Paul Stewart said: "Part of Siglion’s overarching agenda is to motivate as many people of Sunderland to enjoy a healthier lifestyle by taking part in more exercise.

“That’s why we’re sponsoring the runs - 4,000 people complete the races every year, but very few are from SR postcode and we hope to encourage them to get more active.”

The Sunderland runs are organised by former Olympic runner Steve Cram’s company Events of the North, which organised the link with Barnardo’s.

Kara Gillies from Barnardo’s said: “The treadmill challenge is a fantastic idea and we’re delighted Siglion has chosen to support our 150th anniversary in this way.

“We still have places available in the events for as little as £15 for those who would like to fund-raise and support some of the most vulnerable children in the North East.”

“We wish all the best to those taking part in the treadmill challenge and look forward to seeing everyone at the finish line on May 1.”
