The event – organised by Sunderland BID – starts this Saturday (March 11) and was organised after the success of a similar event held last autumn.

More than 2500 vouchers to visit city restaurants and take advantage of a whole host of special offers have already been downloaded, beating the total number used last time round.

Restaurants, cafes and bars across the city and beyond are supporting the initiative, with many offering special menus with two courses for £10 and three for £15.

To mark the event we’ve rounded up seven of the top Restaurant Week deals.

•Divino Pizzeria, Burdon Road

With pizzas to rival the size of the slices in New York City, Divino’s makes freshly made mains and homemade cakes daily.

The Funky Indian restaurant

Offer: Two courses for £10 (main course and dessert) or three courses for £15

•Holmeside Coffee, Holmeside

Located next to music venue Independent, Holmeside Coffee has been serving up fine cups of coffee (and cake!) since 2013. More recently, it has introduced a range of breakfasts and lunches, which in the past have included sky-high pastrami sandwiches and salmon and cream cheese bagels.

Offer: Any sourdough toasted sandwich and any hot drink for £5

Saucy Burger

•No2 Church Lane, off High Street West

Simple and straight to the point, No2 Church Lane is all about beers and burgers. However, you’d be fooled to think that its menus are limited, as it has an extensive list of meat, vegetarian and vegan burgers to choose from, as well as more than 70 beers.

Offer: enjoy any burger, side and selected beer / wine for £15.

•The Ivy House, Worcester Terrace

The Ivy House, Worcester Terrace, Sunderland.

Offer: any 1/2 pizza or sandwich served with salad, triple cooked wedges and soft drink for £5.

•The Coffin Club, Derwent Street

This Derwent Street bar and grill offers an alternative experience for diners including quirky menu options such as wing and a prayer chicken wings and The Coffin Dodger ultimate parmo.
