Christ Church Mothers' Union, Seaham, held a successful pie and peas lunch recently.

At 5pm tomorrow there will be a PACT meeting held in Parkside Community Centre. This is an opportunity to meet police officers and local councillors to discuss concerns about the local community.

Seaham and District Scout Association will hold its annual meeting in Dow House, North Terrace, at 7pm tomorrow.

There will be a Christian Aid Brunch held in Christ Church on Friday. This will be a simple meal of bacon sandwiches or baked potatoes with a filling.

Dawdon (2nd Seaham) Air Scout Group is to hold its Annual General Meeting on Friday, July 15 at 6pm in the Group Headquarters, The Farm Scouting Centre, Parkside Road, when reports will be given and badges awarded. There will be a raffle and members of the sections will give a short entertainment, Parents and supporters invited to attend.

This afternoon, there is to be an informal Carers’ meeting at Jubilee Centre, Charles Street, from 1pm to 2.45pm. Tomorrow, a Carers Support Group meeting will be held at Thornton’s, Dalton Park at 9.30am. A breakfast club will be held at Seaham Day Centre, Bradbury House, Marlborough Street, from 9.30am to 11.30am. On Saturday, St John the Evangelist will host a summer draw with refreshments and stalls.

On Saturday, between 2pm and 4pm, St Andrew’s, Dalton-le-Dale, will hold its summer fair in the church grounds. There will be a variety of stalls and activities.

Christ Church Services for Sunday are Holy Communion at 10am and evening prayer at 6pm. A service of Holy Communion will be held at St Andrew’s, Dalton-le-Dale, at 6pm. A service of Holy Communion is held every Wednesday at 10am at Christ Church.

Are you concerned about your memory? The LAMP Project is a local advice group for people who may be experiencing memory problems and who need free professional, practical support and advice. Meetings take place monthly at different venues around East Durham. The next meeting is on Tuesday, July 19, from 2pm to 4pm in Jubilee Centre, Charles Street. Next Tuesday, July 19, at 7pm, Paul Merryweather will preside at the evening service in Seaham Spiritualist Church, Vane Hall, Cornelia Terrace. There is a cover charge of £3.50 on most services.

Ryan Grant, in one hour three minutes, was the winner of the Seaham Triathlon run on July 3, when 55 competitors participated in the event organised by Barry Taylor. Thanks go to the sponsors of the event, ‘Two men in a truck’, Seaham Town Council and Sainsburys, East Shore Village, all the marshals and participants.

Gentle exercise for older adults to help improve strength, co-ordination and balance is held every Tuesday from noon to 1pm in Eastlea Community Centre. Admission is £1. For more information, ring 0191 5812399.

On July 4, Christ Church Mothers’ Union held a very successful and friendly pie and peas lunch to which members of other churches in the town were invited. There will be no branch meeting during August but members of the Mothers’ Union will gather for a united service and Get Together at All Saints’ Church, Deneside, on September 5.

The service held on July 3 in St Andrew’s Church, Dalton-le-Dale, to remember and honour local men and boys from the village who gave their lives in the Battle of the Somme, with their names being called out by members of families and congregation, and also thanks given for all those who served in the army and at home, was a moving occasion. The service was conducted by the Rev Paul Harrison and was organised by Dalton-le-Dale History Group. The Royal British Legion Standards from Murton and Seaham were present. A donation of £50 was given by the History Group towards the work of the Royal British Legion.

St Mary the Virgin Church, Old Seaham, a 7th/8th Century Anglo Saxon Church, will be open for visitors and pilgrims every Wednesday and Saturday from 2pm to 4pm until mid September.
