Seaham - Down Your Way

Parkside Community Centre is hosting a family fun day on Sunday from noon to 4pm. There will be exhibitions and displays by the police, fire brigade, Go North East Buses, classic cars and bikes and '˜Biker down' as well as wrestling, balloon making and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Donations are asked for on entry.

In Your Face Theatre, which operates in Seaham is holding a concert on Friday at The Mallard. From September 6 to 8, the group will present ‘Rent’ at Seaham Town Hall. More information is available from Alex Cox.

Next Tuesday evening, August 16, Val Atess will preside at the 7pm service held in Seaham Spiritualist Church. There is a cover charge of £3.50 for most services. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Seaham Methodist Church is holding a free children’s summer holiday club from August 22 to August 26. The club is designed for children aged between five and 11 and will include sporty craft making, games and music. To book a place, contact Deacon Esther Longe.

While out for a walk along the coast why not call in at St Mary the Virgin Church, Old Seaham. The C7th/8th Anglo Saxon Church will be open for pilgrims and visitors every Wednesday and Saturday between 2pm and 4pm, until mid September.

The people of Seaham and surrounding area are to be congratulated once again for their generosity. As of July 22, Seaham Branch of the Royal British Legion has banked £20, 575.28 for the 2015/16 Poppy Appeal. There are still two months to go to better this amount before the new appeal in October – there are still several wreaths as yet unpaid. Orders are now being taken for wreaths and crosses fort his year’s Remembrance Services and parades.

It was with great sadness that members learnt of the recent death of Miss Doris Ferguson. ‘Aunty Doris’ to hundreds of St John’s Sunday School children, as well as a popular headteacher at Easington Colliery Primary School for many years, she was also a long standing church warden and choir mistress. She was always an active and positive Christian who worked for, and helped others, all her life. Doris will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
