Seaham - Down Your Way

As has occurred for decades when Armistice Day falls through the week, on Friday the Royal British Legion Standard was paraded, and the Last Post and Reveille sounded outside St John the Evangelist Church at the top of Church Street. School children and residents stood in silence before moving into the church for a service by Father Chris Collins. Children from Ropery Walk and Trinity Schools laid their own wreaths at the Altar before reading Bible passages and prayers.

More than 1,000 people gathered for the Act of Remembrance at the cenotaph on Terrace Green where the Deputy Lord Lieutenant laid a wreath on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, while almost 200 attended the service at Seaham Memorial and New Seaham after a service in Christ Church and more again gathered at Murton cenotaph. Representatives of all local communities and organisations were represented to pay their respects to all our armed and civilian forces. The Royal British Legion works all the year to support past, present and future service personnel. Thanks to everyone who has given their help and support. It is with regret that Seaham Theatre Group has had to cancel its production of Dick Whittington and his Cat.
