Seaham - Down Your Way

Mr and Mrs Arthur Keen, of Seaham, would like to thank a gentleman who took Arthur home in his car after Arthur had a fall whilst out walking, suffering shock, cuts and bruises. Margaret says she was so concerned about her 86-year-old husband that she forgot to ask the gentleman his name.

Seaham and District U3A Patchwork and Embroidery Group recently presented representatives of the Seaham branch of the Royal British Legion with two cheques totalling £300, the product of poppies made and sold all year long by the talented ladies in aid of the National Poppy Appeal.

Tonight at 6.30pm, the Hospital of God Greatham, Seaham Day Centre, is hosting a Christmas Concert in St Paul’s Church, Murton. Entertainment will be provided by Durham Constabulary Male Voice Choir andMiss Ellie Dawson and pupils from St Joseph’s RC School and Ribbon Schoo, Murton. Refreshments will be provided. Andrew Walker will preside at this evening’s service in Seaham Spritualist Chuch, Vane Terrace. There is a cover charge of £3.50 on ost services. Everyone welcome.

Tommorrow evening, Wednesday, at 7pm, the Mayor of Seaham, Coun Sue Morrison, by agreement with Father Frank McCullagh, is holding Seaham Ecumenical Civic Choir Service at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Harbour Walk. Seaham Town Band will be performing and refreshments will be served in the church hall after the service, which is open to as many representatives of the various churches, community groups and organisations as are able to attend.

A Christmas coffee morning will be held on Saturday, December 10, from 10.30am, in Seaham Methodist Church. There will be festive hom baked goods, jams, marmalade, stocking fillers, etc. Money raised supports the Church Building Fund. Entry is £1 at the door with a free cup of coffee/tea. Everyone welcome.

The next group meeting of the Royal British Legion will be held in Seaham Angling Club on Saturday, December 10, at 2pm. Representatives from all branches are invited to attend. Contact Eddie Brown on 07837 942061 for further details.

A Christingle Service will be held at Christ Church, New Seaham, on Sunday, December 11, at 6pm. Children are asked to take their parents along. The traditional Chrstingle oranges will be distributed.

The next monthly meeting of RAFA will be held in Seaham Youth Centre on Wednesday, December 14, at 2pm. All are welcome to attend.

‘Two Become One at Christmas’, a festive concert performed by In Your Face Theatre and Seaham Theatre Productions at the Mallard, Stockton Road, Seaham SR7 8EP, on Friday, December 16. On Sunday, December 18, at 3pm, Seaham Methodist Church will hold its Christmas Carol Service. Mince pies will be served afterwards. Everyone is welcome to attend, as they are on Christmas Eve from 6.30pm to share in the festive spirit with family and friends and enjoy favourite carols.

In Your Face Theatre proudly presents Sleeping Beauty the pantomime in association with Seaham Town Council and Oldfields Events. It takes place in Seaham Town Hall, Stockton Road, on Tuesday, December 20, to Thursday, December 22, at 6.15pm, with a matinee performance on Friday, December 23, at 3.15pm. Dawdon (2nd Seaham) Scout Group will hold a Christmas concert and awards evening on Friday, December 16, in the Farne Scouting Centre, Parkside Road, and the raffle ticket numbers for the Christmas draw will take place.

As of November 29, £17, 895. 50 had been collected from the Poppy Appeal Fortnight and banked by the Seaham branch of the Royal British Legion. Thank you to all who gave so generously their money, time and effort. The appeal runs evey year, from October to September, and donations from sepcial events are always gratefully received.
