Jeff Savage braved the North East elements at the Boxing Day Dip and raised, through sponsorship, almost £460, which is to be donated to the Building Fund of St Andrew's Church, Dalton-le-Dale.

Tomorrow, at 7.30pm the Seaham Branch of the Royal British Legion will meet at 7.30pm in the Farn Scouting Centre, Parkside Road, to discuss a programme of events and possible venue. Old and new members encouraged to attend.

Sunday (second Sunday before Lent) services at Christ Church, New Seaham are as follows: Holy Communion will be celebrated at 10am and evening prayer at 6pm. St Andrew’s, Dalton-le-Dale, will celebrate Holy Communion at 6pm. On Wednesday mornings a short ‘said’ service of Holy Communion is celebrated at Christ Church at 10am, followed by tea, coffee and biscuits and a natter, subject to funerals. Everyone is welcome to attend any of the services where you will receive a warm welcome.

A hot tasty meal awaits you every Thursday, at noon in Eastlea Community Centre, Stockton Road. Cost is £4.50 for dinner, dessert and tea or coffee. A friendly welcome awaits you. Ring 0191 581 2399 if you would like more information.

The 1st Dawdon Guide Company meets on a Tuesday in Dillon House, Sophia Street, at 7pm and caters for girls aged 10 to 14. Parents who are interested in their girls joining, contact 5819003 for further information.

Dawdon (2nd Seaham) Scout Group, based at The Farn Scouting Centre, Parkside Road, would appreciate help from the people of Seaham in collecting Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers. Vouchers will be used to obtain equipment and materials which will enable the youngsters to gain skills and experience. Contact Group Scout Leader on 5810419 for collection of vouchers.

A beginners’ Bridge Class will be held from 1.30pm to 3.30pm tomorrow at 1 North Terrace. The cost is £2, which includes a cup of tea and biscuit half way through the session. There will be a warm welcome for anyone who is interested. Members of the Bridge Club meet every Monday and Wednesday at 6.30pm and new players are invited to attend. The annual general meeting of the RAFA will be held next Wednesday, February 22, at 2pm in the Youth Centre, Strangford Road. Old and new members invited to attend.

Dawdon (2nd Seaham Scout Group) caters for children aged from six to 14½ years of age in Beaver, Cub and Scout Sections. Meetings are held on Friday evenings in The Farn Scouting Centre, Parkside Road (just west of the Fire Station). Interested adults are needed to volunteer with the Scout Troop. Eastlea Karate Club has three new black belts – Shay Lamond, nine, Lyndon Bishop, nine, and Kaylem Little, 10. They have all trained very hard and their hard work has paid off.
