Police have confirmed that one vehicle has crashed on Gill Crescent, Fence Houses, at around 4.30pm on Friday, February 19.

It is understood that emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and find an alternative route.

Meanwhile Go North East buses have been diverted from the area, with services 4 and 71 affected by the ongoing road closure in Fence Houses.

The operator has warned passangers that the ‘road may be closed for some time.’

A post on the Chester-le-Street police Facebook page said: “Gill Crescent, Fence Houses, is currently closed due to a one vehicle road traffic collision.

"Please avoid the area and find an alternative route. Emergency services are on scene.”

An ambulance was also called to the incident but it was not needed.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 4.30pm to a report of a road traffic collision in Gill Crescent North.

"We were then told an ambulance was not required and we were stood down."
