An annual report, published by High Fliers, has given an insight into just how the graduate jobs market is doing - and has pinpointed the universities which are being targeted by the biggest employers.

Newcastle and Durham have both made it into the top 25, with Manchester taking the top spot ahead of Cambridge and Oxford, despite it only being in 28th place in the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016.

Other universities making it into this top 25, despite falling out of this number within the Guide, include Liverpool, Cardiff and Glasgow.

The research also found that Britain's top employers are preparing to recruit the biggest-ever intake of graduates in 2016, while more than 1,000 positions were left vacant in 2015.

Leading employers across the country in 2016 are expected to pay a median graduate starting salary of £30,000, with top law firms, investment banks and accounting firms increasing their pay.

Work experience programmes which pay a salary have also expanded by many companies, it was found.
